Story
Through the eyes of a strong-willed woman, the remarkable story of Irena Gut and the triumphs of the human spirit over devastating tragedy emerges as she risks her life to save a generation of Jews from the atrocities of the Holocaust.. Although this Canadian film had a much wider theatrical release in Canada than the typical Canadian film, for some reason its distributor, Elevation Pictures, decided not to give the film a substantial marketing budget. As a result, the film performed poorly at the box office and was pulled from most theaters by the end of its third week or release.. (at approximately 2 minutes) The opening title card announces that the events take place in the East.

I’ve never seen one like this
I’ve seen a lot of World War II movies. "Irena Gut’s Pledge" is the story of a real person, Irena Gut, a teenager when World War II began. She was a virgin, from a loving and well-off family. The war began, and she was gang-raped, beaten, and left for dead by Red Army soldiers, famous for their rapes throughout Europe.
The Nazis killed her father
Her family was torn apart. She was lonely and desperate. She never gave in to self-pity, but dedicated herself to saving Jews from extermination. Her self-sacrifice, her courage, and her ingenuity put the rest of us to shame.
Holy cow, what a woman
Sophie Nelisse is almost supernatural in her ability to inhabit the young Irena Gut — said Irina’s real daughter. Nelisse said she’s not a Method actor and was able to shake off the difficulties of the role as soon as she heard “Cut.” It’s amazing. I highly recommend this film. Again, I can’t think of anything else like it.
